Hallym University Hangang Sacred Heart Hospital

From June 23 to July 6, Hallym University Institute for Global Social Responsibility invited 18 trainees of Dominican Republic Hospital Management Capacity Building Program to Hallym University. The program, funded by KOICA, is part of the ODA (Official Development Assistance) project called CIAT (Capacity Improvement and Advancement for Tomorrow) that focuses on developing human resources by educating civil servants, technicians, researchers, and policy makers from developing countries.

The institute has managed the fellowship program for 3 years on the basis of the best education program of Hallym University related to the field of international development cooperation, public health, and medical management. This year, the institute invited working-level staff at medical institutions in the Dominican Republic and Professor Moo Eob Ahn of Hallym University College of Medicine and Professor Jae-Young Choi of Department of Business Administration gave them lectures. The trainees learned the concept of digital healthcare and health information management.

Furthermore, they had a good opportunity to go on a field trip to several institutions such as Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital, National Health Insurance Service, Korea Social Security Information Service, and Medical Industry Techno-valley. The Dominican trainees observed the ideas of the hospital management system on site, aiming to benchmark the Korean health management system and introduce it to their home country.

Dean Ki-Woong Yang of Graduate School of Global Cooperation in Hallym University said, “The trainees are working in the medical field in the Dominican Republic. They are the talents who all passed the tight screening process of KOICA.” He added, “Hallym University provides training programs on hospital management system and healthcare system, encouraging them to ideate solutions to apply in their country on the basis of the curriculum. They have a chance to prepare a Project Concept Paper (PCP). I believe it will be really helpful for them in improving their current situation in their home country.”
