Hallym University Project Group for Education and Research in Medical AI recently organized an international symposium to encourage global collaboration and innovation in medical artificial intelligence research. The event invited speakers from renowned medical schools including the Harvard Medical School Center for Primary Care and UMass Chan Medical School.

The international symposium took place at Hallym University's International Conference Room on May 10. Seventy participants attended the symposium including Hee-Sung Yoon, Executive Director of the Ilsong Educational Foundation, Yanghee Choi, President of Hallym University, Kwang-yeol Jeong, Vice Governor for Economic Affairs of Gangwon Province, as well as researchers and students in the field of medical artificial intelligence. They gathered to reconsider the significance of the medical artificial intelligence field and engaged in an in-depth discussion on global healthcare.

Professor Kirsten Meisinger, an international expert on health system innovation from the Harvard Medical School Center for Primary Care, delivered a lecture on global healthcare, focusing on system innovation and leadership. David Duong, Director of Global Primary Care and Social Change at the Harvard Medical School Center for Primary Care, introduced the center and discussed its future vision, emphasizing the role of primary care in providing essential medical services and the integration of artificial intelligence in healthcare. Jatin Dave, a professor at Umass Chan Medical School, presented MassHealth, a healthcare service in Massachusetts, and discussed the future role of AI in global health, generating international interest in the field of medical artificial intelligence and underscoring its significance.

On this day, a memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed to strengthen global joint research cooperation between the two organizations and to continue further exchanges. Through this agreement, Hallym University plans to establish a system where both institutions can participate in joint educational programs and research projects. They also plan to promote cooperation related to students and departments. Additionally, on May 9, the day before the symposium, the U.S. delegation visited the Gangwon State Government and discussed cooperation measures to promote international joint cooperation with Governor Jin Tae Kim of Gangwon State. They also discussed cooperation in various fields to expand global medical artificial intelligence.

The international symposium was organized as part of the medical artificial intelligence convergence talent training project supported by the Korea Health Industry Development Institute (KHIDI) and conducted by Hallym University. Hallym University was chosen for the 2022 project and is currently in its 3rd year of the project due to its outstanding performance. The university aims to train professionals with global capabilities and a focus on regionally tailored practice. To achieve this, Hallym University offers various programs, including the establishment and development of medical artificial intelligence courses, training programs at leading global universities and institutions, corporate collaboration, and industry-university-research center projects. The goal is to contribute to the development of professionals with expertise in the field of artificial intelligence.
