Hangang carries out training for Vietnamese medical staff

On August 16, Hallym University Hangang Sacred Heart Hospital held a capacity building training for medical staff from Military Hospital 175 in Vietnam and officials Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health.


As part of a project carried out The JW LEE Center for Global Medicine (CGM) at Seoul National University College of Medicine, the training was conducted to strengthen the capacity of trauma surgery medical staff at military hospitals in Vietnam and improve the medical system and develop Vietnamese health care system.




Participants in the event were officials from Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, medical staff and external relations team from Military Hospital 175, as well as researchers and medical staff from The JW LEE Center for Global Medicine (CGM) at Seoul National University College of Medicine. Participants had the chance to listen to professional medical treatment cases of burn injuries from Cheong Hoon Seo, Chief Medical Officer and Chief of Rehabilitation Medicine at Hangang Sacred Heart Hospital and Dohern Kym, Chief of Burn Surgery at Hallym University Hangang Sacred Heart Hospital. Then, they had a facility tour such as Burn intensive care unit, emergency room, burn treatment room at Hallym University Hangang Sacred Heart Hospital which specializes in burn injuries treatment.


Hangang Hospital is the only designated university hospital by Ministry of Health and Welfare specializing in burn injury treatment. The hospital has the largest burn treatment center in Korea. It operates a multidisciplinary integrated treatment system for a variety of medical treatment cases and burn treatment. It also has a robotic rehabilitation center with wearable rehabilitation robots such as SUBAR and Morning Walk®.


Director Jun Hur of the hospital commented, “I hope this training will help enhance the trauma surgery capabilities of the medical staff at Military Hospital 175 in Vietnam.”


A medical staff from Military Hospital 175 in Vietnam said, "Currently, death and disability caused by trauma has been serious enough to cause national loss and social problems.” He added, “This crash course helped to learn the latest knowledge related to treating trauma surgery from equipment, infrastructure and medical staff of Korea's top burn treatment hospital.”


Meanwhile, Hallym University Hangang Sacred Heart Hospital has been running a NAVER blog called ‘Healing Session for Burn Patient with Hangang Sacred Heart Hospital’ to provide information on how to get well from burn cases at a rapid pace and various burn related tips.
