No.7297 Date2022-03-03 Hit 15838

The white coat ceremony for freshmen of Hallym University College of Medicine 2022 was held at the auditorium of the medical school on March 2, 2022. Due to the COVID-19 situation, only a part of medical school professors and freshmen participated in the ceremony.

After the welcome message from Dean Sang Won Suh, professors dressed the newcomers in a white gown which symbolizes a medical doctor. The students also were given a specially designed pin with Mobius’ band engraved that serves as a visual reminder of their oath and commitment as future doctors.

Hallym University College of Medicine held the White Coat Ceremony in 2007 for the first time in Korea. It was to welcome new medical students of the year and to inspire them to grow into a humanist doctor who always puts patients first. The Mobius band of the pin symbolizes the endless communication and trust between medical personnel and patients based on humanism.

The pin with Mobius’ band engraved on it was supported by the Arnold P. Gold Foundation, which sponsors white coat ceremonies at 99% of AAMC-accredited schools of medicine in the U.S., medical schools in 19 other countries, 360 schools of nursing in several physician assistant programs. Hallym University College of Medicine is the only medical school in Korea that is supported by the Foundation.
