Hallym University Dongtan Sacred Heart Hospital ranked the top among university hospitals in Gyeonggi-do in Newsweek magazine’s 2021 ranking of the world’s best hospitals.
The ranking was based on recommendation from medical experts, patient surveys and the hospital’s medical key performance indicators.
In the overall ranking, Dongtan hospital marked the 23rd in Korea rising three steps up from last year, which is the 3rd rank among the nation’s general hospitals except for tertiary hospitals. The hospital proved its medical excellence by scoring higher than some of the tertiary hospitals.
Since its opening in 2013, Dongtan hospital has been providing the highest quality of medical services for local residents in the Dongtan New Town where the population mainly consists of young people. To meet the medical needs of the region and to become the best smart hospital, it has been leading the medical innovation by introducing an AI-based voice recognition medical recording solution in the operating rooms for the first time in Korea, adopting biometric arrival notifications, and setting up a facial recognition system for patient identification.
In addition, it has been playing its crucial role as a medical hub in the region from saving ER patients to treating patients with severe diseases. By performing heart transplantation and LVAD surgery for the first in the Southern Gyeonggi-do, carrying out plenty of robotic surgeries, providing the fastest ER care for severely ill patients, and opening a high-pressure oxygen treatment center, it is now evolving into one of the most trusted hospitals in Korea.
