Hallym University Hangang Sacred Heart Hospital

Hallym University Medical Center (HUMC) held “Mighty Hallym 4.0 Vision Proclamation Ceremony” at The Shilla Hotel Seoul on April 23, 2019, and presented its future vision, development plan, and roadmap for the next decade.

About 1,000 Hallym members attended the ceremony and prominent guests of Hallym’s affiliated institutions in the world including Executive Vice Chairman Herbert Pardes of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, Dr. Mark A. Hardy of Columbia University, CEO Hideki Ito of Tokyo Metropolitan Geriatric Hospital and Institute of Gerontology, and the members from Yanbian University Hospital.

At the ceremony, visions and roadmaps of each affiliate hospital, occupational group and specialized field were presented. They showed their own strategies actively utilizing AI, big data, cloud service, IoT, AR, VR, and robotic system.

Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital emphasized ‘hyperconnectivity,’ focusing on ‘being a high-tech smart ubiquitous hospital,’ ‘providing patient-centered care,’ ‘and ‘promoting Cancer Center, Cardiovascular Center, and Transplantation Programs.’

Hallym University Kangnam Sacred Heart Hospital introduced its plan on establishing ‘Hallym Medical Town’ and leading ‘Smart-Medical Zone Initiative of Yeongdeungpo-gu’ by ‘specializing in care for high risk maternity patient and newborns, international robotic surgery, and cancer treatment, and intensively promoting Robotic Surgery Center, Regenerative Medicine Center, subfertility/fecundity/high risk maternity patient/newborn baby Treatment Center, and Subfertility Clinic.

Hallym University Chuncheon Sacred Heart Hospital unveiled its vision on becoming a senior citizen-focused smart city hospital and presented roadmaps such as being a senior citizen-friendly hospital, constructing a hospital-centered city model by developing a program that connects leisure for retirees and medical services, and intensively developing community care.

Hallym University Hangang Sacred Heart Hospital promised to become a regional trauma center and research-centered hospital by promoting intensive care system, targeting on promoting and expanding Burn Center, Cardio-Cerebrovascular Center, Organ Transplantation Center, and Burn Institute, developing artificial organ and customized artificial skin, and developing absorbable vascular stents.

Hallym University Dongtan Sacred Heart Hospital declared to become one of the best tertiary hospitals in Gyeonggi-do and to construct smart hospital. Its core power sources will be expanding its regional influence further to Taean, Seosan, and Dangjin, introducing AI technology in medical and administrative area, expanding its infrastructure in main building, vitalizing Cardio-Cerebrovascular Center, Cancer Center, Digestive Disease Center, and Emergency Medical Center, and opening a cancer hospital specialized in minimally invasive surgery and precision medicine.

HUMC, as a medical center, showed its five major development area: data governance and precision medicine using AI and big data; cancer immunotherapy; treatment system using VR and AR; senior citizen-friendly smart hospital; and artificial organ development using 3D and 4D printing. Medical teams, which will be leading each area, presented their goals and detailed strategies for the next ten years.

“HUMC has been striving to provide the best medical services and social contribution based on good will,” said Chairman Yoon, emphasizing HUMCs spirit of the times (zeitgeist) in front of the enormous challenge of the fourth industrial revolution. “Even though the industrial circumstance chances swiftly, we should not lose our keynote ‘empathy and love on human’ and be a strong counter-warrior to lead our times of state-of-the-art technology.” He added.

Executive Director Hee-Sung Yoon promised active support to put Mighty Hallym 4.0 in action including 5 billion won research funding.

HUMC was founded in 1971 with the establishment of its first Hallym University Hangang Sacred Heart Hospital, and spread its effort to enhance the citizens’ health and medical treatment with opening of Hallym University Kangnam Sacred Heart Hospital, Hallym University Chuncheon Sacred Heart Hospital, Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital, and Hallym University Dongtan Sacred Heart Hospital. It performed the nation’s first nutrition survey, resulting in publishing healthcare white paper, which is the backbone of Korean medical insurance system. It also established and managed variety of social welfare facilities including nursing care home for the handicapped, library for the blind, and social welfare centers.

HUMC is focusing on medical research by establishing research institutions including Hallym Translational Research Institute and Hallym AI & Big Data Center. It is facing a new phase as one of the best global institute for medical care and research by developing brain-saver system for acute stroke, introducing high-tech surgical robots, commercializing medical recording solution based on AI, and introducing the nation’s first facial recognition system for patient care.
