Hallym University Hangang Sacred Heart Hospital

Hallym University-Nagoya City University International Symposium 2018 was successfully held in Nagoya, Japan on November 29, 2018.

Participants including 15 prominent speakers of both Hallym University and Nagoya City University from various departments discussed and shared their expert knowledge. In particular, the presence of President Kenjiro Kohri, President Emeritus Hitoo Nishino and Dean Makoto Michikawa of Nagoya City University dignified the event.

President Kohri spoke in his welcoming remarks about how both institutions have built and maintained this strong relationship. Chairman Yoon of Hallym University emphasized in his speech of response that both Hallym and Nagoya City University are important partners to each other that have similar vision and mission.

The symposium was comprised of four sessions with 15 lectures. The first session covered ‘Morphological changes and migration termination in newborn neurons controlled by Sema3E-PlexinD1 signaling’, ‘Vimentin and myelin basic protein citrullination, a hallmark of activated astrocytes and disorganized myelin sheath, assessed by novel monoclonal antibodies in neurodegeneration’, ‘Efficacy of Daclatasvir/Asunaprevir according to resistance associated variants in chronic hepatitis C with genotype 1’, and ‘Role of gut microbiota in the liver disease’.

Participants had a short break, and then moved on to the second session where speakers presented on ‘Liposomal drug delivery system and light-triggered drug release from functional liposome for the treatment with cancer’, ‘High-resolution phylogeographic analysis of human- and rodent-derived hantaviruses using next-generation sequencing’, ‘Oral contraceptives related thromboembolism in Japanese women’, and ‘Pathologic application of next-generation sequencing’.

After lunch, the third session began, which dealt with ‘Searching for packaging signals in viruses with segmented genomes’, ‘Factors to predict febrile neutropenia in patients experiencing chemotherapy due to breast cancer’, ‘Development and validation of an educational program to enhance sense of coherence in patients with diabetes mellitus type 2’, and ‘Stroke connectome and its changes in vascular cognitive impairment’.

In the last session, there were presentations and discussions on ‘Implementation of evidence-based neonatal therapeutic hypothermia in Japan: The Baby Cooling Project’, ‘Development of malignancy after heart transplantation’, and ‘Retinal microcirculation in retinal vein occlusion’.

Hallym University singed an MOU with Nagoya City University in 2006 to promote mutual collaboration in joint research, faculty and student exchanges, and academic symposiums. The two institutions have shared expert knowledge and clinical experiences through annual joint academic symposiums on basic and clinical medicine.
