Hallym University Hangang Sacred Heart Hospital

Under the theme of 'Health and Disease in Women and Children', the 10th Hallym-Uppsala International Symposium was successfully held at Uppsala University in Sweden on September 18, 2018.

Participants including 10 prominent speakers of both Hallym and Uppsala University have discussed and shared their knowledge on the current issues on health and disease in women and children.

President Eva Åkesson of Uppsala University spoke in her welcoming address about how both institutions have built and maintained this strong relationship, and congratulated the tenth-year of joint academic collaboration. Chairman Dai-Won Yoon of HUMC pointed out in his congratulatory remarks that both Hallym and Uppsala are important partners to each other that have similar vision and mission.

The symposium was comprised of four sessions with 10 lectures. The first session covered 'Achievements of the Cervical Insufficiency Clinic at Hallym University Medical Center' and 'Cervical Cerclage for the Prevention of Preterm Birth'.

In the second session, speakers presented on 'Minimally Invasive Surgery and Ongoing Clinical Trials in Cervical Cancer in Hallym University and Korea', 'Cervical Cancer Prevention Programme based on Self-sampling for the Analysis of HPV', and 'Negative Experiences and Posttraumatic Stress following Childbirth: Causes, Symptoms and Care'.

After lunch, the third session began with presentations on 'Trend in Neonatal Intensive Care of Very Low Birth Weight Infants: Korean Neonatal Network Study' and 'Perspective in Diagnosis and Treatment of Neurodevelopmental Disorders after the Implement of Nationwide Developmental Screening Test in Korea'.

The last session dealt with topics of 'Extremely Preterm Infants in Sweden', 'Parents of Children with Cancer: Time Does Not Heal All Wounds', and 'DOHaD: Being Born Large for Gestational Age and Later Obesity'.

On the following day, there was a guided tour of Uppsala University and a field trip to one of Uppsala's famous landmarks. On Sept. 21, the delegates from Hallym visited Campus Gotland and had a look around the campus.

Overall, all of the participants enjoyed the opportunity to spend meaningful time with each other. The specific programs of the symposium including topics and speakers are as follows:
