Hallym, Uppsala experts to discuss issues in cardiovascular diseases
- The 9th International Symposium on September 19 -

Hallym University Medical Center (HUMC) of Korea and Uppsala University of Sweden are jointly hosting the '9th Hallym-Uppsala International Symposium' at Hallym University Dongtan Sacred Heart Hospital in Dongtan on September 19 this year. Under the theme, 'Novel Approaches in Cardiovascular Disease,' medical experts of both institutions are going to share thoughts on precision medicine and real world evidence in cardiovascular disease.

Among the Uppsala dignitaries who will join the symposium are Dr. Kjell Oberg, dean emeritus of the faculty of medicine, Dr. Eva Tiensuu Janson, current dean of the faculty of medicine, Dr. Agneta Siegbahn, Senior Professor of Coagulation and Inflammation, Dr. Claes Held, Associate Professor of Cardiology, Researcher at Uppsala Clinical Research Center, and Dr. Jonas Oldgren, Professor of Cardiology, Head at Uppsala Clinical Research Center.

Offering an invitation to the event, President Hae-Ran Lee of HUMC noted, "Hallym and Uppsala have held joint academic meetings which covered a wide range of issues in medicine and surgery since 2008. This year, we are going to turn our attention to ‘Novel Approaches in Cardiovascular Disease' and discuss various issues on precision medicine and real world evidence in cardiovascular disease." "It is indeed a great honor and a rare privilege for us to work together with Uppsala University which has been renowned as a top-notch institution in medical research in the world. Their profound medical knowledge and expertise will surely be contributory to advancing academic research activities of Korea, not to mention those of Hallym," she added.

Hallym's collaboration with Uppsala University dates back to February, 2008, when Hallym medical delegates first visited Uppsala to tap the possibility of launching and promoting academic exchange initiatives. Dr. Kjell Oberg, the then dean of Uppsala's faculty of medicine, responded by visiting Hallym in the spring of 2008 which made the bilateral cooperative relationship between the two institutions gain further steam. Their continued efforts for cooperation finally brought about a tangible and fruitful result --- the first Hallym-Uppsala Symposium in October, 2008, in Seoul.

Uppsala University, founded in 1477, is the oldest university in Scandinavia, northern Europe. For centuries, Uppsala has been holding an important place in science and medicine. Moreover, the university has played an essential role in shaping the Swedish culture and identity.
