Hallym University Hangang Sacred Heart Hospital

Hallym University Dongtan Sacred Heart Hospital held a ceremony for celebrating its 200th operation of robotic surgery with da Vinci Xi on June 8, 2016. The accomplishment only took 14 months since the hospital adopted the ‘da Vinci Xi,’ the 4th generation robotic surgical system, in April last year.

The department of General Surgery did 115 cases, which is the largest number, and it is followed by 45 cases from Urology department, and 37 cases from Obstetrics and Gynecology department. The most common surgery by da Vinci Xi was robotic cholecystectomy for patients with acute cholecystitis.

The patient satisfaction on robotic surgery was quite high. Mr. Kang who had the first total gastrectomy by da Vinci Xi in Asia said, “I chose robotic surgery as I heard that it shows higher success rate than laparoscopic surgery and fast recovery.”

He added, “It is not that painful after the surgery, and I am more satisfied with its small scar. I will recommend the robotic surgery to my families and friends.”

Dr. Dong Woo Shin, Professor of General Surgery and Director of Robotic Surgery Center at the hospital said, “I think the reason for the growing number of patients who choose robotic surgery is that our professors from many different departments have actively joined the robotic surgery with great passion.” He also added “We will do our best to make Hallym University Medical Center the mecca of robotic surgery by developing new robotic surgical skills and using the system for various diseases.”
