Dr. Ki-Suck Jung named new chief of Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

Dr. Ki-Suck Jung, director of Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital has been named the new head of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC). He is a noted expert in respiratory disease and is widely known to have abundant experience in treatment and clinical studies. Dr. Jung is expected to upgrade the level of nation’s disease prevention and control system against infectious disease such as MERS and ZIKA virus.


The new chief of KCDC took the office on February 3, 2016 and said, “I will try my best to enhance the KCDC’s emergency response capability to restore our public trust.”


Dr. Jung is a professor of pulmonary, allergy and critical care medicine at Hallym University College of Medicine, and served as a chief and a chairman of internal medicine, and a director of lung center. He has recently worked as a director of Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital for four years from January 2012 to February 2016. He also held important positions in academic fields such as publication director of Korean Academy of Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases, chairman of Cough Study Group, vice-chairman of COPD Study Group, and academic director of Korean Hospital Association. He has participated in more than 30 global and domestic researches on pulmonary disease, publishing more than 160 papers on the topic since 1990.


At the farewell ceremony held on February 6, Dr. Jung said “I would like to thank all Hallym members for your efforts for the development of Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital for the last four years,” and added “I truly hope Hallym could make another leap forward and make fruitful outcomes.”
