Buryat State University leadership visits HUMC

High-ranking officials at Buryat State University in the Republic of Buryatia visited Hallym University Medical Center to observe HUMC’s state-of-the-art facilities and discuss ways to seek various exchanges with HUMC.


A eight-member delegation led by Buryat State University President Kalmykov Stepan Vladimirovich, Buraev Dmitry, dean of college of medicine, Hitriheev Vladimir, dean of oriental studies and Tsydenova Darima, professor of Korean language visited Hallym University Chuncheon Sacred Heart Hosptial, Hallym University and Hallym University Dongtan Sacred Heart Hospital on April 7, 2014.



During the visit, the delegation has sought for advice to HUMC members for establishing a health examination center at Ulan-Ude, the capital city of Republic of Buryatia.


Followed by a brief presentation that encompasses HUMC’s history by Dr. Sang Soo Lee of orthopedic surgery, the Buryat delegation has also expressed its interest for starting medicine education exchanges with HUMC to benchmark a Korea’s leading medical institution’s medical education.


President Vladimirovich said the university has been seeking ways to learn Korea’s cutting edge medical expertise to establish the health examination center and he expressed hopes to continue exchanges with HUMC to train medical professionals and other employees who will be working at the center when completed.


In a related matter, Hallym University Chuncheon Sacred Heart Hospital and Buryat State University’s College of Medicine signed an affiliation agreement.



The two sides agreed to start manpower exchanges and help the Buryat’s health examination center to be built and operated smoothly.


The agreement is significant in that Hallym University’s Industry Academic Cooperation and Gangwon-do Medical Tourism Support Center’s efforts to boost medical tourism by best utilizing Gangwon’s medical resources with forming a network with the world’s ranking universities have paid off.


“The agreement has paved a way for Hallym University Chuncheon Sacred Heart Hospital to expand its international medical network and boost medical tourism,” said Dr. Yong-Jun Cho, director of the hospital.



“Given that Buryat State University is located to close to Mongolia where exchanges with us are already active, it has a great accessibility. We hope to use this crucial opportunity to spread the information about HUMC’s state-of-the-art medical expertise to patients from Buryat and we will continue working with the university to become one of the world’s best global healthcare partners.”


Established in 1932, the Buryat State University has 10,000 students in 12 departments. It has signed affiliation agreement with 50 universities around the world including Germany, Finland, Poland, Japan, Korea, and China.


The Republic of Buryatia, a federal subject of Russia with population of 1 million people, is located in the south-central region of Siberia along the eastern shore of Lake Baikal.
