Hallym University Hangang Sacred Heart Hospital

Hallym University Medical Center(HUMC) provided medical services for local residents in Seoun-myeon, Anseong, Gyeonggi-do on June 25. It was a part of a campaign, ‘Finding Hope in the Green Rural Area’ launched by the Rural Development Administration(RDA), HUMC has joined the RDA programs since 2010.

The volunteer activity was aimed at helping rural residents with medical care, technical support, and consultation on village development. It was Hallym’s third participation in RDA programs following medical services in Gangwon-do in 2010: Yeongwol-gun in June, and Hongcheon-gun in October.

Hallym sent 16 medical professionals including Dr. Hae-Ran Lee, President of HUMC, and Dr. Jae-Yong Park, an orthopedic surgeon at Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital. They provided customized care to local people. They also brought medical equipment for examinations, and performed therapy for musculoskeletal problems, chest X-ray, and ECG.

President Lee said, “The purpose of this program was helping the RDA to materialize its new policy, ‘Producing small but viable farms’, by offering practical, effective and customized welfare services to the local community. We plan to keep performing free medical services for people in the relatively less developed regions. “

Meanwhile, under its vision, ‘As a cornerstone for public health care, Hallym pursues the happiness of all mankind by practicing medical services of love and equality,’ HUMC has been serving as a consultant for the Official Development Assistance(ODA) projects to support underdeveloped countries such as Iraq, Vietnam, Kenya, and Paraguay since 2007. In the meantime, Hallym has also actively pursued philanthropic activities in Korea to fulfill its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) by making a partnership with a rural community while operating welfare centers.
