Hangang Experts Save Vietnamese Burn Victims

No.2706 Date2010-12-01 Hit 30963

The Medical Aid Team of Hangang Sacred Heart Hospital stayed at an emergency hospital in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, and provided free medical treatment to local burn patients from November 10 to 15. The team included experts of the burn center at Hangang.

The medical team, led by Dr. Wook Chun, director of the burn center, treated almost 130 burn victims, and performed surgeries for nine severe patients. Hangang has decided to invite three children, and an adult woman to Korea, who need additional surgeries.

The Hangang medical crew also lectured on a burn reconstructive surgery for local doctors, and shared advanced knowledge and experiences on burn care. During surgeries, the Hangang professionals invited Vietnamese doctors to observe actual practices, and deliver surgical know-how.

Director Chun said, “We are going to expand our free medical aid for young burn patients to other Asian countries including Indonesia and Mongolia.”

Last year, the medical support team of the Hallym Burn Foundation, and Hangang Sacred Heart Hospital visited the Philippines to provide medical services for 30 local patients, invited later on two kids for surgery, Monterola Lorna Joy, an eleven-year-old girl, and Abanil Carlo, a thirteen-year-old boy who were suffering from severe burns.
