No.2496 Date2010-05-04 Hit 32415

The following is a full-text of the congratulatory remarks made by Dr. Young-Sun Lee, President of Hallym University, at the 3rd Hallym-Uppsala International Symposium held on May 4, 2010, at COEX, Seoul. The symposium was co-hosted by Hallym University Medical Center(HUMC) and Uppsala University of Sweden:-Ed.

President Anders Hallberg, Chairman Yoon,
Dr. Kjell Oberg, President Lee, Ladies and gentlemen:

God Morgon! (Meaning Good morning!)

On behalf of Hallym University, I would like to welcome you all to the 3rd Hallym-Uppsala International Symposium. This morning we are observing a truly important moment in the history of Hallym. The collaboration with Uppsala which enjoys a global reputation, long history, and time-honored tradition sets yet another milestone in our globalization process.

Taking this opportunity, I'd like to thank President Hallberg and Chairman Yoon who have done so much, and so wonderfully over the last two years to make this remarkable bilateral relationship mutually beneficial. I might say that they are the very architects of our relationship that is now getting more and more substantial. I also wish to thank prominent medical professors of both countries who have kindly agreed to be part of this program.

Since I took office as president of Hallym University a little more than two years ago, I have always been proud to say that the history of Hallym is relatively short, but its vitality and potential are simply mind-blowing. Now I'm sure they would never let us fall behind others.

We have been advising our students to be armed not only with a higher level of academic attainments, but with universal values to become organized and efficient global leaders who would care for issues and all human beings around the globe. In the meantime, our efforts have solely been directed towards making Hallym one of world-class educational institutions by establishing a global network and pursuing diverse exchange programs.

Today's symposium is all the more significant and timely as its Medical Center has recently taken a big step forward by declaring a fresh global vision, 'The 3rd Mighty Hallym Initiative 2012-2015,' to bring change and innovation. With Dongtan Sacred Heart Hospital and a translational research center being established in 2012 and 2015, respectively, Hallym's new initiative focuses on laying a firm foundation to upgrade itself at home and on the international front.

To embody such a towering ambition, its hospitals are expected to champion integrated values for specialization and revitalization strategies, and make Hallym an institution where both personal and organizational values are met. I'm sure these efforts will lead Hallym to project itself in the near future as a Mighty Global Player with outstanding expertise and global medical excellence.

Today you will be dealing with a subject of vital interest "Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine." You will cover a number of issues ranging from basic theories to clinical applications. I hope it will help you tackle real problems, seek actual solutions, and build a solid network of experts. I am confident that speakers and participants from universities, hospitals, clinics, private and state-run research institutes, and medical professors and students will share this precious moment to make this symposium productive and rewarding.

In closing, I wish to thank especially President Hallberg for being here with us to give words of celebration and encouragement to the Korean audience. Your presence, Mr. President, attaches a particular significance to this meeting between Uppsala and Hallym. At the same time, my appreciation goes to the organizers who have spared no efforts to make this well-rounded academic event even more successful.

Renewing my gratitude to you all for joining this symposium, I would say with every confidence that it will be most rewarding and productive.
