Hallym University Hangang Sacred Heart Hospital

Dr. Markku Savolainen, dean of faculty of medicine, University of Oulu, Finland, is going to visit Hallym University Medical Center (HUMC) from September 22 to 26. Hallym University College of Medicine and University of Oulu Faculty of Medicine are expected to sign an affiliation agreement on collaborative research and exchange of professors and students. After the signing of the agreement, the Finnish professor will give a lecture on "HDL (high-density lipoprotein) as a Target in the Prevention of Atherosclerosis and Its Complications."

Dr. Savolainen is accompanied by Dr. Eeva-Riitta Savolainen, his wife, who is a professor of clinical chemistry at University of Oulu. During their stay in Korea, they will visit Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital (HUSHH) and look around Korean cultural properties. Meanwhile, she will also deliver a lecture on "Organization of Hospital Laboratory Services in Finland" at the Moonwha Hall of HUSHH.

Dr. Markku Savolainen has served as a professor of internal medicine at Oulu since 1983. As a scholar and administrator, he has taken on key posts at the societies and institutions in Finland including the Finnish Medical Society and the Arteriosclerosis and Vascular Biology Council.

University of Oulu, founded in 1958, has maintained exceptionally close links with business and industry, and established its extensive network of partners includes hundreds of educational and research institutes. The fields of information technology, biotechnology, northern and environmental issues have been defined as special research focus areas.

Earlier this year, Hallym medical delegates led by Chairman Dai-Won Yoon visited the Finnish educational institution to tap the possibility of the two-way cooperation between Oulu and Hallym. In return, Drs. Markku and Eeva-Riitta Savolainen pay a visit to Hallym at the end of this month.
