Korean Kids Join Burn Camp in Taiwan

No.1719 Date2008-08-26 Hit 30538

A burn camp for kids was held at the Jinshan Youth Activity Center in Taiwan from July 24 to 28 this year. The camp sponsored by the Children Burn Foundation of the Republic of China (R.O.C) invited 200 child burn victims and staff from Taiwan, China, Hong Kong and other countries. Five Korean children with burn led by the Social Work Team of Hangang Sacred Heart Hospital attended the event.

The five-day camp which was held under the theme of "Show and Tell" was designed to provide opportunities with child patients to express themselves through meetings with other patients, and participating in artistic activities including paintings and musical performances. A Korean participant said, "Although it was not easy for me because we all came from all other countries, and the weather here is totally different from that of Korea, I am now having fun here by sharing our thoughts with other burn friends. I really want to come again next year."

Korea played host to such camps for child burn patients in 2006 and 2007. Hangang participated in the Children Burn Camp in Taiwan last year with a child patient and now participating in a burn camp in Canada with three families of burn patients.

The Hallym Burn Foundation, established in May this year, plans to hold the 3rd Burn Camp in Korea this winter, and to participate in burn camps abroad to promote international exchanges.
